Rice cakes carry as many calories as hard candy. Gram for gram
Natural rice cakes carry 386 kcal per 100 grams. Halls hard candy: 384. Both numbers come from the nutrition tables on product pages in the same shop. Gram for gram, a product from the "healthy snacks" shelf holds as much energy as boiled sweets.
Where the illusion of lightness comes from
A rice cake is light in the literal sense: it weighs a few grams and rustles like styrofoam. Bread holds plenty of water, puffed rice holds almost none, so in the hand the difference is huge. But the lightness of the slice is about mass, not calories. Per 100 grams the whole rice-cake shelf sits in one band: natural 386 kcal, muesli 384, multigrain 400.
For scale, from the same shop: paprika crisps run 517 kcal per 100 g. Rice cakes are not crisps, but they're a long way from "puffed air" too.
The honest side of rice cakes
Calories aren't the only measure, and the two ingredient lists are worlds apart. In 100 grams of rice cakes there's 0.6 g of sugars; in the candy, 75 g. The cakes have 10 g of protein, 3.5 g of fibre, 0.01 g of salt, phosphorus and magnesium from the brown rice, and a Nutri-Score A printed on the pack. They are not sweets and that's not the point.
The point is energy density. "I only had a few rice cakes" sounds innocent, and a 100-gram pack is 386 kcal, a proper meal's worth. A product you reach for instead of a sandwich because it's light can out-calorie that sandwich if it disappears whole.
What puffing rice costs
The ingredient list of the natural cakes is one item: 100% brown rice. The same brown rice in boil-in-bag form costs 8.23 zł per kilo. Puffed into cakes: 21.50 zł per kilo, 2.6 times more for a change of shape. The pack feels cheap because it's small, 2.15 zł per 100 grams, but 100 kcal from rice cakes costs 56 groszy.

A rule for the next shop
Check the word "light" in the nutrition table, in the per-100-gram column, not in your hand. The second number that settles it is how much of the pack you actually eat in one sitting. A single rice cake is a trifle; the pack is a meal.
Snugmeal counts meals exactly that way: calories from the product tables multiplied by the grams that actually land on the plate.
